The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast- 'The Impossible Planet'

Exploration!

That’s the name of the game in this show (that and running) and this week we’re doing a bit of both as the Doctor (Doctor Who) and Rose (Billie) take one of their trips to a planet that, as Davey Tennant reliably tells us, is quite impossible.

And, would you believe it, there’s a fair number of mysteries knocking about there. We’re talking hieroglyphic acne, telepathic spaghetti men and, most shocking of all, Rose’s phone signal is, like, proper shit. These myriad mysteries demand answers and you’re certainly not going to get any this week as this is the first entry in a two-parter - one that we traditionally view very fondly - but has memory fitted us with billie-tinted spectacles, or is this a work of unmitigated genius?

There’s only one way to find out and that’s to ride this mother all the way down - like a rollercoaster!

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast- 'The Idiot's Lantern'

Oh, you thought we were out for the count, but you were SO WRONG!

Yep, we’ve been on hiatus for months and months and months whilst we focused on our reviews for the final season of ‘Mad Men’ and our retrospective of the ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise (‘cos they were doing another one, did you hear about that? I think it’s done okay financially) - but now those two heaving beasts are in the rearview mirror and now we can get back to focusing on the adventures of an elderly nomad who exclusively wants to hang out with young, beautiful women.

This time, he’s trying to impress his latest squeeze with a trip to 1953 to the coronation of Princess Leia, or someone. It’s an event where the nation gathered in unified self congratulation and celebrated their unique, strangely indefinable British-ness the only way they knew how - by inviting themselves into other people’s living rooms unbidden and pretending to like one another. But Princess Leia (or someone) ain’t the only lady on the telly, and the other one has quite the appetite - so, sing the national anthem ('we will rock you’), bungle Gran into a van, and buy a cut price TV - because we’re hungry!

‘Jurassic World’ review

It’s a podcast 65 million yea - uh - several days in the making!

It’s true, we’re reaching the end of our world renowned 'Jurassic Park' retrospective and, unsurprisingly, that means reviewing ‘Jurassic Park IV: Jurassic World- The Fourth Jurassic Park’. But this is a franchise which has fallen on increasingly hard times. You might even say that you could have previously considered it…extinct. So the question becomes, can Colin Trevorororo, a large ensemble of writers, Chris ‘Indiana Jones’ Pratt and Dallas Buyers Club possibly be enough to thaw out this dormant beast and nurture it back to life, like a baby T-Rex that’s had it’s leg set by Vince Vaughn and Julianne Moore?

It certainly won’t be for lack of trying, as they’ve clearly thrown more money than God at this film - but will it pay off? Join WHINECAST one more time as we peer into the land that time forgot!

BlogalongaStarWars - 'Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope'

We’ve got a bad feeling about this!

Yep, it likely won’t have escaped your notice that they’re making another of 'The Star Wars' franchise and, gosh golly, that gets us pumped. So, true to form, we’ve decided to get ready for 'A Forced Awakening’ the only way we know how - by looking back at the existing episodes and getting bloody nostalgic.

But this isn’t only about zipping down memory lane just like Beggar’s Canyon back home, no, this is about looking back at a franchise that pretty much defined our childhoods and asking such vital questions as how many lawsuits against Luke Skywalker has Ben Kenobi quashed, does R2-D2 *like* C-3PO and just what the fuck is Uncle Owen’s problem?

All these questions and many, many more will be answered as we prepare to hit warp speed and travel back to a galaxy far, far away - make it so!
