We've only gone and bloody lapped ourselves! Join us for the first episode of the podcast where we've caught up with our original 2011 live reviews - as we try and decide how our views have evolved on the episode over time, but more importantly, whether or not we can remember anything about it whatsoever

The Mandalorian, Season 2, Episode 1 review

Despite it being ruined forever in December 2019, we return to a galaxy far, far away to catch up with the screen’s most devoted dad. Can the second season of The Mandalorian build on its tour de force season one finale?  Will anyone punch a baby? Will the hero of the show let a man be eaten alive? Will there be any disintegrations?

Find out the answer to this - and so many more questions - as we review the season 2 premier

'Doctor Sleep' Director's Cut commentary

Happy Halloweeeeeeeeen! Yes, it's Halloween 2020 and, if the rest of the year is anything to go by, this year's Halloween is likely to be a real scream. We decided to ensure this, so we looked fondly back to our year of Stevie King adaptations and Halloween 2019 and we realised the only sane thing to do was release a commentary for the three hour Director's Cut of 'Doctor Sleep'. Get involved for the most super fun horrortastic Halloween you ever will have encountered. I mean, we mentioned it's three hours right?

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'The Almost People'

So, we've all experienced it when our socks turn against us. Or our trousers. Or even our pants. Well, guess what? Now our bloody doppelgängers are at it and they're only running around thinking that they're actually *people*??

Someone needs to sort this out - and one man can. Well, two men. Well, I guess thirteen men. And a woman. Well, loads of women. And some kids. Look, what I'm saying is Doctor Who is here and he's gonna make it all better!

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'The Doctor's Wife'

Unknown writer Neil Gaiman tries his hand at doing a Doctor Who - and the universally poorly regarded 'The Doctor's Wife' comes out the other end! Condemned all across the board, can WHINE+SPACE find a glimmer of quality in an episode that is universally disliked?

There's only one way to find out!

'X-Men - The Last Stand' commentary

This week, it's out with sex criminal Bryan Singer and in with sex criminal Brett Ratner - as we continue our look back at the endless series of X-Men films that Fox gone did. And, let's be honest, if we had complaints about the execution of 'X1: The First X-Men' and 'X2: X-Men 2 - X-Men United, Too', then we really did not know that of which we spoke, as we're about to be confronted with a dark and terrifying force that makes the Phoenix look like Philip Scofield.

'X2' commentary

Where were we? After an unscheduled break to deal with Audio Horrors, our X-Men project is back, as we take a look at one of the films frequently held up as an exemplar of the comic book movie genre - that’s right, it’s ‘X2: X-Men 2 - X-Men United: More X, more Men 2’. But has the film matured like a fine wine in the last 17 years? Or has it turned to repugnant vinegar?

There’s only one way to know, and it’s by listening to this bloody podcast - this time with incredibly variable audio quality!

The Doctor Who Rewatch podcast - 'The Curse of the Black Spot'

Get ready. We present to you the most on-topic, laser focused analysis that you and possibly anyone has ever heard on this episode of the popular TV show 'The Doctor Who'. Listen up, as we go to almost laudable lengths to talk about any topic other than the episode right in front of us, but, well - we got there in the end...

'Captain Marvel' commentary

It's been 100 years since Captain Marbles landed with us in early 2019, but here at WHINE+SPACE we like to take our time with delivering a superior product, like that 90s Guinness ad about the old man going swimming. So, in advance of the release of 'Blank Window' in November (I...guess?) we're finally catching up on our MCU and taking our dang medicine!

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'Day of the Moon'

Lots of things happen in this week's episode of TV's 'Doctor Who' - and we can confirm that some of them do indeed make sense. So join us - as lots of cool shit goes down in quick succession and then the popular character Doctor Who turns the whole of humanity into a race of genocidal maniacs. Also, the moon is an egg.

The Doctor Who Rewatch - 'The Impossible Astronaut'

The snake is truly eating its own tail now! When we first began the podcast back in 2011, it was midway through series 6 of the show and we were deep down the Moffat-rabbit hole of theories, twists and expectations.

Well, everything old is new again, because we've been doing this damn thing long enough for us to finally (pretty much) catch-up with ourselves - so join us, as we discuss Moffat's arcs, fair mysteries and hiding ourselves in a Tesla

'X-Men' retrospective

Whether it's your ability to roll your tongue, or your Aunt who has three heads, mutation is everywhere. But nowhere more so than this here podcast - as we kick off our retrospective look at each film in the ridiculously long-running, ridiculously variable in quality cinematic X-Men franchise that ran between 2000 and 2019.

That dang MCU is coming to claim these filthy mutants, so before it does so, join us as we look back at the weirdest, longest-running, timey wimey continuity in all of superhero cinema, starting with 2000's 'X-Men'

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'A Christmas Carol'

IT'S CHRISSSSSSSSSTMA -  oh, wait, it's July. To the surprise of everyone, including ourselves, we're following up the end of series 5 with inexplicable speed and zipping forward to the halcyon days of Christmas 2010, before the dark times - before the empire.

Join us - as we delve into Young Matthew Smith's first festive foray in the Tardis, his fumbling with Dumbledore's Time Tina Turner and the genre mash-up of Gladiator-Policewoman sexplay

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'The Big Bang'

To the shock and awe of all involved, Young Matthew Smith's first season in the role of Doctor Who in the hit TV show 'Doctor Who' is crashing to a close - and we're seeing out Series 5 with a bang. A...*big* bang, if you will. We've both got fond memories of the episode, but how has it aged in light of Moffat's later finales and, even more importantly, can we actually remember a single thing about the episode?

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'The Pandorica Opens'

It's been a journey filled to the brim with chins and gingers, but now here we are - the two part finale of Moffat's first series, the one-two punch of Young Matthew Moffat coming right at your face. But what can you expect from the episode? Stone-Henge! Romans! Stone-Henge! River! Stone-Henge!

'Justice League' commentary

It’s been long threatened, and you know the WHINE+SPACE boys, we *always* make good on our threats. With the #SndyerCut inexplicably on the horizon, we thought now was the time to look back at the #TheatricalCut and ask what went right, what went wrong - and is ‘Justice League’ the greatest motion picture of all time?

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'Cold Blood'

Cold earth. Murky blood. Chilly water. Hungry soil - it's *all* at play in this week's episode of TV's Doctor Who, as Young Matthew Smith leaves the future of two races and the entire planet in the hands of a kissogram and someone who loves to drill. How do they do? There's only one way to find out!

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'The Hungry Earth'

We’ve all experienced earth. I mean, like, soil. But sometimes, earth isn’t just satisfied with getting your shoesies mucky or in getting under the fingernails of filthy children. Sometimes the earth wants more. Sometimes the earth wants you. Sometimes, the earth gets hungry.

For those occasions, there’s only one chin you need to call - it’s Doctor Who!

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - ‘Amy’s Choice’

Choices choices - we all have to make them! Stay with our reliable and strangely submissive husband and imminent child OR dick around the cosmos with an angular-faced man who’s a threat to gardens everywhere? Fortunately, it’s not us but our old friend Amelia Pond who’s got to tackle this particular pickle - and she’d better hurry up, because Toby Jones is slipping into something more comfortable as we speak!

Lost - Ten Years Later

Well, son of a gun. It’s been ten damn years since the end of the popular television show ‘Lost’ - and you may recall that, once upon a time, WHINE+SPACE did a podcast or two looking back on the show. But, hell, if there’s ever a time to look back at looking back, it’s after a decade, so join us as we discuss our feelings about the finale, the show’s arc, and make a conceptually flawed stab at picking our ten favourite episodes.

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - ‘The Vampires of Venice’

Vampires! They’re sexy. They’re bitey. They’re...fishy?? Well, *something’s* rotten in the state of Venice and you can bet the ultimate power triangle of Kazza G, Rory and Doctor Who from the hit TV show ‘Doctor Who’ are bound to figure out what the score is - all the while attempting to avoid discussing Amy’s calculated attempt at infidelity!

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - ‘Flesh and Stone’

Audio fuckery abounds this week, as we row upstream against Skype’s wishes to discuss the second part of Moffat’s series 5 Weeping Angel spectacular. Fortunately, it’s bloody worth it, as we find an episode in which it’s all cracking off - Amy can’t keep her eyes open, the Doctor can’t keep his jacket on, River can’t keep out of prison and the Angels can’t catch a break.

Join us as we tediously slather the episode with unrelenting praise for an hour!

'Star Wars' State of the Union 2020

The dead speak! Or rather, we do. For way too long, about the state of 'Star Wars', on what is increasingly being known as #StarWarsDay. It's 2020, and since nothing else of note is going on in the world, WHINE+SPACE are sitting down to ask the big questions. Where does 'The Rise of Skywalker' leave the saga, now we've had few months to digest things? Also, as the UK has now received all of 'The Mandalorian' (finally), how does that change our perception of Star Wars, what we view as 'canon' - and where would we like the franchise to go from this point on?

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - ‘The Time of Angels’

What do we need? ANGELS. When do we need them? THE CURRENT TIME.

Yep, we’re dealing with a whole bunch of firsts this week on the Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast. The first time Matthew Smith meets the Sad Angels. The first time Matthew Smith meets River Song. The first time that fella from The Streets stands on a golf course looking dazed. Join us, won’t you?

‘Avengers: Endgame’ - one year on

Incomprehensibly, it’s been an entire year since the release of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in the UK - and so we take a look back at our most anticipated film of our lifetimes with a year’s hindsight. Where did it leave the MCU? Where will it go next? How will the pandemic effect both the logistical and creative direction of the MCU - and how do we feel about the mass tragedy depicted in ‘Endgame’ in light of the all-too-real tragedy currently gripping the planet?

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - Victory of the Daleks’

Guess who’s back? Back again. Back for more. It’s the Dereks!

WHINE+SPACE’s look back at Series 5 of Nu-Who continues, with both the return of the Daleks for the first time since their big series 4 finish, the first time Smith meets them, the first Dalek story of the Moffat era - and the first time ol’ Merkin Mark Gatiss joins in the fun under the Moffat regime.

Will the Doctor nail the Daleks once and for all, or will they once again prove to be jammy dodgers?

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - ‘The Beast Below’

Young Matthew Smith and his nightie-rockin’ lassie Kazza G are back for a second go around, and a simple act of trying to murder Amy in a ‘space accident’ results in Smithy and Kazza catching sight of the Starship UK - surprisingly suggesting the UK is still an entity in the year 50 bajillion. Before you know it, Matthew Smith is suspiciously befriending lonely children, Kazza G’s covered in whale vomit and there’s something rotten in the state of Denmark, by which I mean the UK.

Does torturing animals make them go faster? There’s only one way to find out!

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - ‘The Eleventh Hour’

At long last! It turns out, all it took was a global pandemic to get us to return to the Who re-watch, and finally crack on with the most exciting era there is - that of Young Matthew Smith and Steven Merkin’ Moffat. Join us as we celebrate the tenth anniversary of Smith’s first episode, in our characteristically late fashion - and please excuse a few rough edges on the audio front, we’re isolating in different locations and this is our first ever remote episode, bear with us!

Doctor Who - ‘The Timeless Children’ review

So, it all comes down to this! Or something. Chibbers has been threatening to turn us around and turn off the gas in the series 12 finale - but does he improbably pull it off?

Well, let’s just say that Chibnall gonna Chibnall, so it all goes pretty much exactly how you might expect. Ryan throws a ball. Yaz identifies as a sociopath. Graham struggles with hats. Jodie realises that she is a very old alien who can regenerate when injured.

Engage!

Doctor Who - ‘Ascension of the Cybermen’ review

Those bloody Cybermen have only gone and bloody ascended again! What a pain. But not just a pain for Mrs. Doctor and her squad, it’s also quite an inconvenience for the human race, who have been all but wiped out.

Will Graham snd Yaz’s romance blossom? Will the Doctor apologise for destroying humanity? Will the luck of the Irish endure? Most importantly, when all’s said and done, will we still care?

Doctor Who - ‘The Haunting of Villa Diodatti’ review

Ghosts! An army of them? No, just the one - FOR NOW. Old Cheeky Chibnall does us a right old deception as he tells us a spooktacular tale that ends of having more in common with old Frankenstein than we ever would have thought possible. Join Mrs. Doctor, the Fam and a bunch of famous writers who you may or may not recognise for a tale that chills the very soul.

Doctor Who - ‘Can You Hear Me?’ review

A tall bald gentleman creeps into your room in the middle of the night. He smiles at you, then pops his fingers inside you. This is the stuff that dreams are made of!

Have you ever felt alone? Isolated? Set adrift in a harsh uncaring world, feeling like you couldn’t trust anyone or anything? Well, if so - your instincts were correct! Keep these feelings to yourself, bury them deep down and distract yourself with another entirely unrelated episode of TV’s Doctor Who!

The Doctor Who rewatch podcast- 'Praxeus' review

The plastics!

They’ve got it in for us - and I don’t mean the collection of attractive actresses in the 2004 teen comedy ‘The Meanie Girls’! No, sadly it’s our rampant unceasing rape of the planet that’s coming back to haunt us once again, which is starting to prove to be a bit of a ballache.

Fortunately, The Fam are here to help us out, and using a mixture of dissection, recklessness and talking cats, Our Jodie is soon in a position to deliver another to-camera monologue, should she want to. But does she?

Doctor Who- ‘Fugitive of the Judoon’ review

Well, that was…different. That was not Vintage Chernobyly. That was more Cheeky Chibbers. Take a pinch of RTD, throw in a serving of Moffat, a few Doctors, an intergalactic sex machine and a judoon platoon arriving not a moment too soon - and baby, you’ve got yourself a stew goin’

Doctor Who - ‘Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror’ review

Terror!

It’s a curious thing. Makes one man weep, makes another man poop himself. But what does it do in the case of Nikola Tesla’s case? Does it make him rise to greater things? To search for the hero inside himself? Resolve to poison his long-term rival and lover Thomas Edison?

There’s only one way to find out - use some of that classic electricity, wi-fi and other sc-fi gubbins to listen to this review!

Doctor Who - ‘Orphan 55’ review

Holidays!

We all enjoy them, and no-one enjoys them more than the characters of Doctor Who, because they usually involve a load of people dying and, if they’re lucky, probably a conspiracy or two. This particular holiday features all of the above - alongside a selfish octogenarian, a young lady with serious abandonment issues and a surprise guest appearance by musical wunderkind Billie Eilish.

Let’s ‘ave it!

The Doctor Who rewatch podcast- 'Spyfall' part 2 commentary

Gallifrey rises! And falls. And Rises! And…falls?

Ah, that Gallifrey, so frequently rising and falling, much like our degree of investment in the Chris Chernobly era of Doctor Who. But it’s not just rising and falling going on in this episode, oh no, it’s *all* cracking off. *All* the events! There’s a Leonard Henry doing this. Suspiciously familiar lights doing that. Graham riverdancing lasers toward’s his dead wife’s grandson.

All the things.

The Doctor Who rewatch podcast- 'Spyfall' part 1 commentary

They’re back! The loose group of cut-outs that we reluctantly refer to as a ‘fam’ have returned to our television sets ready to answer to question of whether Chris Chernobyly’s year off has resulted in learning the lessons from Our Jodie’s first series.

On that front, only time will tell, but in the meantime, we say hiya to an old friend...
