Christmas Special - ‘Die Hard 2’ commentary

How can the same shit happen to the same guy twice?

When the film you were in was awesome sauce and made a truckload of money, John! But is ‘Die Hard 2’ simply about the cash? Is it simply trying to replicate the first film with some of the pieces moved around the board? The boys here at WHINE+SPACE towers would argue no, so it’s time to grab your Santa hat, your jingle bells, your prickly Holly - because we’re ready to celebrate Christmas in style with a look back at what is unequivocally the second best Die Hard film set at Christmas!

The Tarantino Rewatch Project - ‘Pulp Fiction’

Ever heard of the sophomore slump? The difficult second album? Shitting yourself after a home run?

Of course you have, we all have. Well, this month on the Tarantino Rewatch Project, we take a look at how old Quentin deals with that difficult second album. Did it have any cultural impact? Is it career defining? Are there perhaps any quotable lines present? Do people even remember the bloody film?

We answer these tricky questions and many, many more - as we take a fond look back at ‘Pulp Fiction’!

Doctor Who - ‘The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos’ review

Tim Shaw!

He’s the kind of man that you look at and go ‘Well, he’s got teeth stuck in his face, but he sure looks like the One True God to me!’ - at least, that’s what these couple of Uggos and their magic brains think.

But is Tim Shaw rightly regarded as the deity he is by #TeamFam? Shockingly, no, they seem fairly miffed by him, particularly Graham, who is being a real negative nelly over the whole situation. Will Graham turn the other cheek like Jesus advises, or will he execute Tim Shaw like the mad dog he is?

There’s only one way to find out - and that’s by listening to this bloody podcast!

Doctor Who- 'It Takes You Away' review

Mirror World!

We’ve all been there for a lovely weekend away - but would you stay there forever, with either your departed loved ones or A Froggo for company? That’s the question on WHINE+SPACE’s mind this week, and we answer it in the only way we can - by heaping praise on Jodie, bemoaning Ryan and Yaz and displaying cautious optimism about the show.

In other news - Ryan tells a young blind girl that her father has left her to die alone

Doctor Who - ‘The Witchfinders’ review

Witches!

They’re increasingly common in the world, causing mischief and mayhem all on the bidding of the big man himself: The Devil. Which is exactly why they should be rooted out wherever they be - even if that is inside the amiable goon that is Our Jodie.

So, get your Dumping Chairs ready, it’s time to do some proper drownings!

Doctor Who - ‘Kerblam!’ review

Kerblam!

That’s exactly what we exclaimed when we were confronted with a mildly enjoyable episode of TVs ‘Doctor Who’ starring the popular character Doctor Who. As Chris Chernobyly and friends offer us some searing social commentary regarding Amazon’s creeping infiltration of every aspect of our lives, we at WHINE+SPACE get ready to ask the big questions - why don’t Ryan and Yaz have definable personalities, has the Doctor gone a bit adorably simple during her transition and is Graham contemplating ending his life via bubble wrap?

Grab your Microsoft Zune and get ready to fill it with the hottest of hot takes!

The Tarantino Rewatch Project - ‘Reservoir Dogs’

Tarantino!

He’s an unknown indie director and we think that he’s one to watch. In fact, it turns out he’s got another film coming out next year - ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, so we thought now would be a great time to drum up some much needed publicity to this under-appreciated and virtually unrecognised auteur, with a look back over his directing career.

More importantly, we wanted to look at our own changing relationship to the chap, from bloodthirsty teenagers to defeated thirty-somethings, so we elected to radically shake things up by starting with his first film, the little-known ‘Reservoir Dogs’!

Doctor Who- 'Demons of the Punjab' review

Yaz!

The time has finally come for this young lady to step out of the shadows and into the spotlight - by going on a lovely visit to her Nan’s wedding and hoping she doesn’t summon some of those bloody Parademons.

Well, too bad - ‘cos that’s exactly what she does. Well, sort of. Look, there’s Yaz, there’s some demons and Our Jodie correctly identifies herself as quite the comedian, what more do you want?

Doctor Who- 'The Tsuranga Conundrum' review

Nifflers!

You get ‘em stuck in your Warp Pipes and they don’t half play havoc with your ship. People start detonating off into space. Robots start nicking drugs because they might have a problem. Chaps start giving birth out of their bottoms. So, showing the same universe-famous compassion that she displayed with the emergent Sheffield Spider race last week, the Doctor decides that the best way to deal with this is stick a lovely bomb in the lovely NIffler’s mouth - and see if it likes it.

Does it like it? Let’s find out!

Doctor Who - ‘Arachnids in the UK’ review

Spiders!

Some people love them. But, let’s be fair, most people do not love them and - in fact - are freaked the fuck out by them. Well, if that was their position before this episode then they’re probably not going to feel any more fondly towards them by the end of this week’s adventure.

But, most importantly, will folk have developed greater fondness towards Ryan, Graham and Yaz by the episode’s end? Are these characters popping like poppers at some sort of sex party, or are they laying there flaccid, like the aftermath of some kind of sex party?

There’s only one way to find out!

Doctor Who - ‘Rosa’ review

Ah, time travel - it’s not all fun and games! Our Jodie’s gang find that out for reals this week, as they travel to 1955 and discover that, contrary to Marty McFly’s experience, racism was kind of a pain in the bum down in Montgomery, Alabama.

So, join WHINE+SPACE as we wait to see whether Our Jodie’s gang can possibly sort things our for Our Rosa without being massively offensive and problematic!

Halloween (1978) commentary

HAPPY HALLoh there’s a strange man in the house.

It is the season of spooks and werewolf bah-mitzvahs, so WHINE+SPACE are celebrating in style, by going back to 1978 to take a look at the original ‘Halloween’ (the film, not the event), all in advance of our review of a film that many people are calling ‘Halloween 200’/‘Halloween H40’/‘Halloween 2018’.

So grab your pumpkin, pick up your carving knife and go and stab your naked sister - it’s on!

Doctor Who - ‘The Ghost Monument’ review

Aaaand she’s back!

Yep, it’s Our Jodie’s first proper trip out now that she’s remembered that she’s the character Doctor Who from the hit TV show ‘Doctor Who’ - and thus you can bet our eyes were glued to the screen and our bums were on the edge of our seats.

Will Ryan master ladders? Will Graham rock some shades in a manner that would make Capaldi envious? Will Yaz do a thing?

Find out the answer to all these questions and many more - as we review ‘The Ghost Monument’!

Doctor Who - ‘The Woman who fell to Earth’ review

She’s back!

Yes, after many long months away, young lad Capaldi has transformed his way into Our Jodie and crash landed in WHINE+SPACE’s home town of Sheffield - which naturally means our opinions on this new episode, new Doctor, new showrunner are somehow more valid than those of others!

So, dear listeners, join us for an extremely valid, rather eclectic, some would say haphazard discussion of all things Jodie.

'Sharp Objects' finale review

Ah, Wind Gap. It’s got it all. The hogs. The woods. The rat poison. It’s such a damn triumph of a town, that WHINE+SPACE virtually don’t want to leave - but leave we must, as the delightfully enjoyable ‘Sharp Objects’ is sadly coming to a close.

What are the correct stereo settings to drown out some murderings? Is it difficult to cut words between your own shoulder blades? Was Marion alive all along?

'Ant-Man and The Wasp' review

The scorching hot rays of the sun tried to burn us. The suffocating blanket of heat tried to bake us. But here we are, still standing. Well, sitting - sitting down to finally record our review of ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp’, undeterred by the heatwave rolling across the UK, which has stymied our pathetic attempts to record on no less than two occasions.

But we’re here now - and we couldn’t be happier to have ants in our pants!

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - ‘The End of Time - Part 2’

Here we are. Journey’s end. No, wait - that was before, wunnit?

Regardless, we are gathered here today to say goodbye to a good man, a kind man, a funny man, a man with sort of-modern-pointy hair, a man who some have described as ‘Fit As Fuck’.

Yes, it’s time to finally say goodbye to David Tennant in the role of Doctor Who in the hit TV show ‘Doctor Who’ - and our hearts be bleedin’, our eyes be leakin’ and our pants be soiled-ing. Join us, won’t you, in a journey across time and space and witness a cautionary tale about ever making allowances for the elderly.

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'The End of Time: Part 1'

Goodness gracious me! We seem to have finally reached young Daniel Tennant’s final episode playing the role of Doctor Who in the popular sci-fi adventure series ‘Doctor Who’. No-one can accuse us of taking the quickest route here, but we *are* here, gosh darn it, so let’s get down to it!

How many erotic cards will Donna’s dreadful mother receive? How many ‘wee snifters’ will Wilf treat himself to? How many shots of John Simm possessing people will Russell T Dog see fit to include?

It’s TIME to find out!

Westworld season 2 finale review

It’s been a wobbly wobbly timey wimey route through Westworld’s sophomore season. There have been many delights, and gosh, they were violent. But there were misjudgments too. Can the season 2 finale - ‘The Passenger’, patch everything up and deliver a conclusion we can all be proud of?

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - ‘The Waters of Mars’

It’s regeneration eve and, in the house that is Martian Base Bowie Prime, not a creature is stirring - except all the feckin’ water, that is!

We’ve almost reached the end of the road with Tennant and after a couple of Specials that could be considered distinctly non-special, a lot’s riding on ‘The Waters of Mars’ to ensure that Davey T gets the send-off that he deserves. Can Russel T Dog pull it back? Will Captain Avalanche give Ed a heckin’ break? Will the Doctor discover he likes watersports?

'Solo: A Star Wars Story' Review

Punch it!

Yes, that’s right, punch the wall to dispel your excitement for listening to WHINE+SPACE’s review of the new entry in the Star Wars anthology series ‘Han Solo: A Star Wars Film’. As is traditional with a Star Wars anthology film, ‘Solo’ has taken a rather rocky road towards cinema screens - but will all these rocks be visible onscreen?

There’s only one way to find out so, as previously mentioned, punch it!

The Doctor Who Rewatch podcast- 'Planet of the Dead' commentary

Oh, Mr. Tennant, your time grows short!

We’re well into Daley T’s final year now and that, of course, means we are tackling those notorious SPESHULS in full force! This time, Russell T Dog is conjuring up some classic Who imagery, with a battered double decker bus in the middle of an endless desert planet - but outside of that undeniably delicious hook, does the episode offer us anything of substance? And, most importantly, is substance what the audience even wants or needs when we’re in full HOLIDAY SPESHUL EVENT mode, including so much brandy sauce that Michelle Ryan’s pilfered goblet runneth over?

Find out the answer to all this and so much more - as WHINE+SPACE guide you around the ‘Planet of the Dead’!

'The Next Doctor' commentary

Every so often, the world of genre filmmaking recruits a noted musician. David Bowie in ‘Twin Peaks’. Alanis Morrisette in ‘Dogma’. Britney Spears in ‘Crossroads’ - and now it’s the turn of TV’s ‘Doctor Who’, as noted misery guts Morrisey is taking on the mantle of The Next Doctor! Will his strident dietary activism regularly rear its head? Will he expouse some incomprehensible political views?

Find out the answer to ALL THIS - and much, much more, as WHINE+SPACE uncork the Brandy Sauce for ‘The Next Doctor’!

'Avengers: Infinity War' review

It’s the big one!

After literally years of anticipation, the purple man himself, the ambassador for Big and Tall stores everywhere, Thanos, is out and about, loud and proud - and ready to rumble. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has spent many years and many films getting to this stage, so the only question that remains is ‘do they pull it off?’. Well, that’s what WHINE+SPACE are here to figure out.
