The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'The Return of Doctor Mysterio'

It's Christ's Mass!

And what better way to celebrate than with the return of an enigmatic, eccentric white haired fellow who seems to be able to bend time and space? Santa? No, silly, it's old Doctor Mysterio himself AKA Peter Capaldi AKA Doctor Who AKA The Doctor!

After a year (or twenty-four) away, Doctor Mysterio is back on our screens with the coincidentally annual Christmas Special. But something is amiss, as this Christmas Special seems to have a distinct lack of tinsel, snow and other festive shit and a definite abundance of latex, x-ray vision and other superhero shit. We seem to be taking a different approach to this year's festive adventure, but how will Who's flirtation with the superhero genre go down? Will it slide down smooth, like a fine Christmas pudding covered in Brandy Sauce? Or will it go down all jagged and cutting, like a glass Christmas star not covered in Brandy Sauce?

There's only one way to be sure - so grab your baby monitor, swallow your gem and take to the skies!

‘Home Alone’ commentary

Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals!

Yes, the festive season is upon us and before we look ahead to the new year, there’s just time for us to look back into our pasts, to think of our youth, to think of our family - and the time that we used our magic mind powers to make them disappear and then unleashed our sadistic tendencies on some desperate, petty criminals.

Here at ‘All of Whine and Space’ we’re just at the right ages for ‘Home Alone’ to have been a huge part of our childhoods, so amidst all of these Star Wars shenanigans, we thought it was time to pour on the brandy sauce, deliver a hastily wrapped present and do a commentary for the 1990 smash comedy that taught a whole generation of children that if someone enters your house unannounced, you can pretty much do whatever you want to them, moral implications be damned.

So join us as we enter the terrifying, vigilante justice-infused world world of Kevin McCallister’s psyche. Oh, what horrors await.

'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' review

There has been a rebellion - have you hoped it?

The hour is finally upon us and it’s time to start a new stage in ‘Star Wars’ history - the first ever anthology entry in the franchise, a format that is currently brand spanking new, but one that we’ll soon become extremely familiar with.

Leading the charge of this next chapter of the ‘Star Wars’ story is ‘Rogue One’, detailing the theft of the plans of one of the Empire’s many Death Stars by a plucky group of Alliance spies. Will us having pre-knowledge of later events hamper audience engagement in the film? Will this new ‘Star Wars’ format solidify confidence after the triumph of ‘The Force Awakens', or give us pause for thought? Most vitally, will the man-children of the internet be able to cope with two consecutive films featuring a female protagonist?

For the answer to these questions and many more - punch it!

‘Star Wars - The Force Awakens’ commentary

There has been an awakening - it were a year ago!

Yes, it's hard to believe, but it's been an entire year since the release of 'Star Wars no. 7: A Forced Awakening' - and what a year it's been! We’ve seen the return of the franchise to a place of cultural prominence and affection that seemed inconceivable a decade ago. But, a year later, does the latest entry in the Star Wars saga retain the shine it held for us upon its initial release? Where do we think this revival of Star Wars excelled, and where did it fall short? And how will the release of ‘Rogue One’ effect our view of a saga which has been, up to this point, a distinctly family affair?

Find out the answer to all these questions and many more, in our bumper look back at ‘The Force Awakens’!

‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ review

Under the stairs? Behind the fridge? Inside your own arse?

Search through all these places and many, many more - as ALL OF WHINE AND SPACE take a trip back into the land of the magicks to find ourselves some fantastical beasts. But will we be pleased with what we discover?

it’s been five years since we last experienced a new Cinematic Potterverse tale and despite our prior fandom for the franchise, it’s fair to say that neither of us were chomping at the bit for a further entry. But has this ambivalence lead to us feeling apathetic about the eventual film, or have we been left pleasantly surprised and ready to dive back into the Potterverse for 20 more annual films?

There’s only one way to to find out, so lock yourself in your room, grab your wand and prepare to do a spell under the covers - it’s going to be magical!

The Stephen King Adaption Project- Halloween special - ‘The Shining: Extended Cut’ commentary

Happy Halloween!

Or IS it? Well, it kind of depends on which member of the Torrance family you are, because if you’re Jack then you’re having an absolutely wicked time. You might say that you were having the time of your life. However, if you’re Wendy or Danny - well…not so much!

But one thing we *can* be certain of is that ALL OF WHINE AND SPACE are having an amazo time, as we sit down for a lovely Halloween treat and look back at a seminal work of horror - Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 adaptation of Stephen King’s ’The Shining’! Everyone can agree it’s an iconic addition to the horror genre, but does it deserve its esteemed reputation? Does it lose points for its loose interpretation of the source material, or does it wisely jettison excess baggage to strip a concept down to its terrifying core?

So, join us as we pedal around on our Big Wheel’s, lose our shit in our bathrobes and generally scream incoherently into the night!

‘Doctor Strange’ review

It’s halloween, so things are bound to get a little spooky, a little peculiar, a little…strange? Hell, things are going to get a LOT strange - STEVEN STRANGE, that is!

On this week’s podcast, we’re bringing together one slack jawed idiot who’ll accept anything Marvel feeds him, and one joyless, slow witted cynic who thinks he’s somehow better than the intensely loved genre he’s reviewing! The Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally opening up a portal into a world of true peculiarity, of magicks, mystics and medics - but will WHINECAST go along for the ride? There’s only one way to find out, so grab your Portal Opening Brass Duck Whistle and follow us into a whole new realm!

'Captain America - Civil War’ commentary

It is a period of civil war.

Or IS it? It looks like our beloved collection of Avengers are having one of those unfortunate misunderstandings, like when you say you’re going to meet your friend at Curry’s, but instead they go to Dixon’s by mistake. And just like in that scenario, things then inevitably escalate to full blown trading of blows.

But who’s going to get thoroughly blown in this oncoming storm? Will it be Steve Rogers, the titular hero of the film - or devilish upstart Tony Stark, who’s snuck along with all of his mates to troll Chris Evans by trying to steal his own film out from under him? There’s only one way to find out, and much like with Harry Hill, it’s with unrelenting violence.

So, break into a Serbian military facility, root around in the back room for a TV and VHS player, and grab Mission Report December 16th 1991 - it’s time to go to war!

‘Ant-Man’ commentary

DOES size matter?

That’s what WHINECAST is going to try and find out, as we take a long overdue look back at Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’, the undisputed epic finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s second phase, - way bigger, bolder and more ambitious than ‘Age of Ultron', for realsies.

But with one half of the WHINECAST team adoring the film and the other feeling passionate ambivalence towards it, are we heading towards a brutal and ugly bruise up, one that leaves the founding friendship of the podcast in tattered, unrepairable shreds?

The answer, is no.

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast- 'Last of the Time Lord'

The last one. The last EVER. Last ever podcast for a series 3 episode that is!

*chortle chortle*

After a long and fairly circuitous path, we've finally wound our way to the end of series 3, the culmination of the twenty episode Master arc and the departure of old Martha from the role of full time companion. There are bound to be tears, it's only natural. But are they tears of sadness, or of joy?

More importantly, will we find that 'Last of the Time Lords' saves or squanders the storyline set in motion by 'Utopia'? There's a lot riding on this and we're not going to let you down by delivering a succinct, digestible slice of podcast - oh no, quite the opposite! So take your laser screwdriver, jam it up your bum, set it to full discharge and prepare to watch this series three finale from your little cute birdcage!

'Spectre' commentary

Happy birthday to US!

Yes, it's officially five years since we started 'All of Whine and Space' and we've decided to celebrate by going full circle. Our first ever podcast was us leaping into the BlogalongaBond project with a commentary for 'You Only Live Twice', so we're celebrating five years behind the mic with a commentary for Dannii Craig's fourth outing as Jimmy Bond 007 - 'Spectre'!

But in the aftermath of the commercially and critically beloved 'Skyfall' can the creative team bottle magic twice? We've got almost all of the prior film's participants back in the saddle, so with that dream team at the helm, what can go wrong, right? Right!?

So join us as two Bond aficionados take a trip back to October 2015 to try and determine if we truly are brothers from another mother!

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'The Sound of Drums'

What's that? Can you hear it? It's the sound - the sound of a new podcast!

We are finally reaching the end of Series 3 and so it's time for us to tackle a two (or possibly three) parter close to our hearts. But have our hearts lied to us? We've both long held the series 3 closing story in high esteem, it long being a favorite of ours. But will we find the return of The Master to be awesome - or irksome? Has it aged like a fine wine, or soured like so much pissy vinegar?

'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Ultimate Edition' commentary

You might have a tingle of deja vu, because it's time for us to once again take a look at 'Batman v Superman'! But this isn't just one of our dozens of BvS podcasts, because this bad boy is looking at the Ultimate Elongated Extra Scenes Longo Extendo Edition!

But what do these extra scenes contribute to the film? Does the extra 30 minutes address any of the many criticisms people have throw at the second film in the DCEU? Is @ChrisSykes108 won round? Is @billowl turned off?

There's only one way to find out - and that's to wearily grab the cassette marked 'Batman v Superman' and slam it into your Sony Walk Man with masculine fury - because if there's a one percent chance this cut might make BvS a better film, we have to treat it as an absolute certainty!

WHINECAST - 'Suicide Squad' review

So, let's review Warner Bros' #SquadGoals !

Number One was to have 'Suicide Squad' make loads of money or at least not be a terrifying financial disaster. Number Two was to bring a positive aura to their burgeoning DC Extended universe. So...er...one out of two?

Yes, a few days into its release, 'Suicide Squad' has debuted to a pretty impressive haul, though the question remains whether this will be maintained in the days and weeks to come as we account for the drag factor of the extremely negative critical reception that the film has generally received, so negative that Warner/DC might be considering their #SuicideGoals . But forget about these PROFESSIONALS with their KNOWLEDGE and their EVIDENCE BASED arguments, what do the slobbering buffoons from 'All of Whine and Space' think?

There's only one way to find out and that's to remove the 'Guardians of the Galaxy'-style mixtape from your Sony Walk Man and bang this podcast in there - hit it!

WHINECAST - ‘Star Trek Beyond’ review

To infinity - and further!

We’re returning and we’re not the only ones, as it’s time to twist again with our good friends from the Enterprise, as they continue to boldly go into the wretched corners of space and trash their extremely expensive ship, big style.

‘Star Trek Beyond’ arrives with a much more muted level of hype than its predecessor, but is this a damning indication of the quality of the film, or something that will work in ‘Beyond’s favour? Will a change of director and new writing allow the rejuvenated franchise to move *ahem* beyond the criticisms that were levelled at ‘Into Darkness’? Or will it be a case of fixing something that wasn’t broken? Most importantly, where has Kirk hidden Alice Eve’s body?

WHINECAST - 'Ghostbusters' review

Does busting make us feel good?

That's the question we try to answer on this week's WHINECAST, as we review a film called 'The Ghostbusters', which arrives at cinemas surrounded by a complete absence of controversy.

In 'The Ghostbusters', a group of women (lol, i know rite) get together to bust some ghosts, with hopefully hilarious results. But are the results as hilarious as intended? More importantly, can the film ever step out of the shadow of another film that was released thirty years ago, which we gather had a similar premise.

There's only one way to find out - strap on your proton pack, your proton gloves, your proton document shredder and pray that you don't get one of those Women's Periods - because things are about to get spooktacular!

WHINECAST- ‘Now You See Me 2’ review

It’s the move event of the year!

lol, just kidding - it’s the movie event of the decade! Yes, three years after Mark ‘The Gruffalo’ Ruffalo took time out from his performance as the live action Gruffalo to truly play audiences like a damn fiddle, he returns with his Four Horsemen (*sigh*) in tow to once again bedazzle and befuddle us!

But can this truly inexplicable sequel reach the heady heights of the first film? Will the wonder of magic achieved through CGI ever cease to amaze and confound? Will we be inducted into The Eye and direct the course of society in an entirely unsupervised and undemocratic manner?

The Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - 'Utopia'

The Rewatch podcast is back - and this time we're going further than we've ever been before, the end of the universe, the very end of time itself.

Though there's a strange absence of Danny Pink or Maisie Williams hanging out, we won't be dwelling on that for too long, because the quarries be full of marauding hair metal rockers and it's deeply preferable for Tennant, Martha and Captain Jack Johnny Depp to take cover with the last vestiges of humanity and meet the man of the hour - Professor YOLO. But why does the Professor have a back story that sounds like cack? Why does he have a knackered watch that he sometimes tries to hypnotize himself with? Most importantly, is 'Utopia' the first instance of a 'three-parter' in New Who?
