WHINECAST - 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ' review

Hey there, Spider-friends!

Can it really be two years since Andrew Garfield first flew through the air with the greatest of ease, quipping and thwipping with the best of 'em, in the process delivering a reboot of the cinematic Spidey franchise that thrilled and bored various audiences in equal measure? Well, it must be, 'cos they've gone made another one! Imagine!

But, can returning director Marc Webb turn, what was for many, the 'pleasantly enjoyable Spider-Man' into the truly 'AMAZO' Spider-Man? Well, we can say one thing, he's certainly not going to be hanged for lack of ambition: we got ourselves some romance, some comedy, some bromance, some comedy, and an arguable roster of villains in the mix (and God knows that didn't hurt 'Spider-Man 3'...) - in other words, we got ourselves a stew, Baby.

But is it the kind of stew that sets up a whole cinematic universe of movies for Sony to ruthlessly pummel cinemas in the same way Marvel has carpet bombed the public into submission? Or the kind of stew that leaves you retching and gagging, shivering on the toilet and wishing you were dead?

There's only one way to know for sure and that's to let WHINECAST tell you how to think and feel!

WHINECAST - 'Metal Gear Solid V - Ground Zeroes' review

What's this, you say, WHINECAST reviewing a game? Yep, it's quire true. We're stepping outside of our comfort zone this week to discuss the release of the latest in a gaming franchise which has been a long time favourite of the WHINECAST boys, so we've decided to sit down and spill out our thoughts on the latest, controversial entry in the franchise.

What do we make of the 'prologue' style of the game, resulting in a much maligned short running time? How does the game fare when it moves into highlighting provocative topics like rape and extraordinary rendition? Does the most accessible, streamlined nature of the control system help or hinder the franchise?

These questions and many more like 'em are about to be sewn up tighter than Paz, so sit yourself down and play this podcast like a damn fiddle.

WHINECAST - 'Captain America - The Winter Soldier' review

It's finally time for the Captain to return! Captain Morgan, you ask hopefully? I'm afraid not, this is the more sober, more violent variety, that chap with Tiger Blood running through his veins and a curiosity for the 21st century percolating in his brain!

It's a rare WHINECAST review this time as we're dealing with one of the infrequent occasions where we have seriously different views of the film in question. One of us loves it, the other hates it. Yes, it's time for an audio punch-up, so let's see who comes out bleeding!

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' review

WARNING - For unknown reasons, the audio on this review isn't quite up to our usual standard, for which we profusely apologise. We hope it doesn't diminish your enjoyment too much and we'll be looking into that unpleasant mystery before we record again

The Marvel Vs DC movie mash-up- 'Superman Returns'

After months under the wings of the Dark Knight, the mash-up finally falls back under the benevolent gaze of the Man of Steel - as this month we sit back and chew the fat on Bryan Singers 2006 semi-reboot of the cinematic Kyrptonian that we're all so fond of.

Greeted with positive reviews upon its release and generating healthy box office returns, 'Superman Returns' now takes the place as possible the greatest 'what if' of the entire Mash-up project. Following hotly on the heels of Christopher Nolan's Batman reboot in 2005, 'Superman Returns' looks not to the future as Nolan did, but to the past, attempting to emulate the style of the persistently lauded Superman film (s) of Richard Donner.

But is this the right call? Can the film's many accomplishments overcome its failings? Where would the franchise have gone were it to have been granted a sequel?

All these questions and many, many more are answered in this month's podcast, so fly yourself up and out of the atmosphere, pop in your headphones and watch the earth silently rotate below you as we get to grips with one of the most interesting and controversial films ever to focus on a superhero!

Punch it!

The Marvel Vs DC movie mash-up- 'Batman Begins'

We're cooking with gasoline now!

This month, the Mash-up is taking a eight year leap forward in time, from the twisted genius that was the disasterpiece 'Batman and Robin', to a wholly different take on the Dark Knight, one that will be hugely influential to the entire superhero genre from this point on, giving any further Marvel films extremely big shoes to fill and instigating a huge problem for DC when they're now forced to reimagine Batman under Zack Snyder - all in the shadow of an interpretation that many would argue is definitive.

But does WHINECAST agree? Join us as we journey down to the underground car park of Gotham where all the smackheads live - do we live to tell the tale? There's only one way to find out!

The Marvel Vs DC movie mash-up- 'Batman & Robin'

It’s the big one! The one we’ve waited for!

The hounds are baying at the door and the filthy peasant townspeople want their Batman back. Yes, we’ve had months making our way through the Mash-up, experienceing highs and lows, but we always knew this day would come, the day in which we’d be facing one of the most reviled films in cinema history. Less popular than ‘Birth of a Nation’ and certainly more morally compromised -it’s JOELY Schumacher’s second, and thankfully, final entry into the Bat-canon (or BATON as it’s known) - the frequently derided BATMAN & ROBIN!

But does the film truly deserve it’s reputation? Does it have any redeemable qualities? IS it the best onscreen depiction of The Bane? Does it allude to Batman raping Mr. Freeze, and should such an allusion be allowed within a children’s film?

These are all questions we’ll attempt to answer (along with what the hell we’re doing about the delay of BATMAN Vs SUPERMAN), so make yourself some tea, spoon the dog, pick at your belly button - ‘cos this will be a podcast to remember!

WARNING- This film may feature George Clooney treating Mr. Freeze to some ‘rough justice'

The Marvel Vs DC movie mash-up- 'Batman Forever' Commentary

Well, much like the inevitability of your own death, we all knew that this was coming. From the very start of the mash-up, we knew this day would descend upon us, somewhat like the Great Depression, the First World War or the Black Death.

Yes, it's January, so that can only mean one thing - it's time for us to get our rubber nipples good and oiled as we enter the neon-suffused world of JOELIE Schumacher. Old Timmy Burton has left for greener pastures and the franchise is getting itself a major facelift, with a new Batman, a new look and a marginally different tone.

Settle down, buckle up, and join us on a kaleidoscopic journey through the imagination of a mind that is to the The Dark Knight what Michael Gove is to an engaging education - punch it, Bishop!

WHINECAST - Sherlock - 'His Last Vow'

Boys and girls, playas and merkers, it's time once more to kiss goodbye our favourite detective for another God knows how many years. But at least we can comfort ourselves with the fact that this series gave us three great episodes of the show to cherish in the meantime - or did it?

Did the finale manage to live up to the first two episodes of the series and the previous two finales? Was the new Big Bad able to fill the considerable shoes left by Sherlock's nemesis, Jim Morrison? Can a man survive a gunshot to the head at point blank range?

These questions and so so SO many more are going to be asked AND answered in tonight's WHINECAST review - so get on it like a bonnet!

WHINECAST - Sherlock - 'The Sign of Three' review

What's that?

Are those church bells I hear ringing? I think they are, which can only mean it's time for everyone's favourite doctor/soldier/detective/playa to finally tie the knot and for best man Sherlock to face the challenge of his life - resisting his urge to cop off with the pretty Maid of Honour!

Yep, TV's most prolific drama returns to our screen with the second episode of series three, an episode that, in the past, has traditionally been the weakest of the prior 'Sherlock' series. Is that the case tonight? Is the 'curse of two' broken? Can Sherlock solve whilst shitfaced? Can a man wear a belt so tight he fails to notice being fatally stabbed?

The answers to all these questions and OH SO MANY MORE lie within!

WHINECAST - Sherlock - 'The Empty Hearse' review

It's been, astoundingly, two years since old Sherlock was last on our TV screens, plummeting off a building like a TV being thrown from a hotel room window by a rock star full of Cracks and Bongs. But how did the strangely faced devil survive such a calamity? That's the question that fans have been asking ever since and it's with tonight's episode, 'The Empty Hearse' that our old frenemy Stevie Mothballs and partner in Mark Gatiss crime decide to spill the goods...sort of.

So, tune in to our thoughts on falling off buildings, mood responsive moustaches and the way in which Moffat has come to redefine the term 'playa'.
